It was indeed a new experience for me to run the race at night!
Having to run along the road where you get a glimpse of the runway track of changi airport, listening to the planes flying off, looking up at the sky with stars and running with a group of ladies. This is the Adidas Sundown Marathon !
Like any other race, I participated together with my running kakis but this time, they are running the relay which is 42km with 4 members in a group while I ran the 10km woman run. I was pretty excited waiting for this day to come. (I have actually registered somewhere in Feb)
On 29 May 10, here I am; at Changi waiting for the race to start! It's different from other races which start in the early morning where I have to wake up at 6am in the morning, battling ZZzzz monster and running under the scotching sun!
This time, there was no scotching sun but only the sunset which awaits you while you are getting ready at the starting point. There are thousands of ladies who had taken part in this event. Young and old, we were here for one objective;- A race in the night!
It was extremely torturing for the last 1 to 2km. I was pacing myself quite well along the way where I thought I could finished the race within my targeted time. But I did not managed to do so and was actually slower by 3 minutes than my usual timing but I am glad I finished the race!
The last part of journey was tough as you were already by then had used up all your energy during the race. No matter how near the finishing line was, It just seemed so far away!! I wanted to give up and walked but I told myself repeatedly I shouldn’t. I have to endure through.
"of course not! " I told them..
To me,running is not about winning nor to compete with others. It is a race with myself.
Like what author Haruki Murakami wrote in his book,What I talk about when I talk about Running: "For a runner like me, what's really important is reaching the goal I set for myself, under my own power. I give it everything I have, endure what needs enduring, and am able, in my own way, to be satisfied."
That's me in every race.. (",)
